The INSTALLSHAREDWOWDIR command line value is not valid.

I should rename this space to “Mutterings on Software Engineering”. Here comes another one.

The INSTALLSHAREDWOWDIR command line value is not valid. Please ensure the specified path is valid and different than the INSTALLSHAREDDIR path.

Yeah, I know. Apparently it is the INSTALLSHAREDDIR value that is not valid. What a great coincidence that I can’t change it.

Web Platform Installer to the rescue?

[de]Der Befehlszeilenwert INSTANCESHAREDWOWDIR ist ungültig. Stellen Sie sicher, dass der angegebene Pfad gültig und nicht identisch mit dem Pfad für INSTANCESHAREDDIR ist.

Go figure.

There’s a growing number of fixes on the web that more or less consist of starting the installation manually.

Not worth my time tonight. Waiting for a rainy Saturday …

I tried manual installation with command line and configuration file but didn’t get it to use the IMHO correct INSTALLSHAREDDIR=C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server.May be this is an issue with the Express edition. However, below are the batch and configuration files with which I was able to get past the feature selection screen. Note that the command line doesn’t include /Q or /QS with which it was always failing with obscure exceptions (Parameter name: path2 —> System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null.).It’s a shame I can’t figure out why it’s working now.— ConfigurationFile.ini[SQLSERVER2008]ACTION="Install"FEATURES=SQLEngine,FullText,RS,SSMSINSTANCENAME=SQLEXPRESSINSTANCEDIR="C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server"INSTALLSHAREDDIR="C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server"INSTALLSHAREDWOWDIR="C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server"— install.cmdsetup /ACTION="Install" /CONFIGURATIONFILE=ConfigurationFile.ini /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS /ERRORREPORTING=1
